What is the importance of Scientific management or relate the management of the elements of management to the word "POSDCORB" of Luther Gulick?

Management is a process that works towards the goal and objectives of the organization. One of the distinguishing features of modern management is it's scientific approach, so the current management is known as scientific management.

Scientific management is almost a reflection of the teachings and policies of Frederick W. Taylor.

Taylor's entire life was focused on increasing work efficiency in production, reducing costs, increasing profits as well as increasing the wages of workers.

Scientific management "is the name of the theory that arose from the work experience of Taylor and his followers George Barth, Gant, Gilbreth, etc.

Henri Fayol first ordered a systematic study of management functions in 1916 and ranked them. He described five management tasks.

A new term was developed by Luther Gulick and L. Urvik it is called "POSDCORB". It is seven new management ideas, all these characters have their own significance in the field of Scientific management.

1. P - Planning planning
2. O - Organization Organization
3. S - Staffing personnel arrangement
4. D - Direction direction
5. C-0 - Co-ordination coordination
6. R - Reporting Report
7. B - Budgeting Budget making

1. Planning - Planning is the main task of management. It is an intellectual activity in which policies are selected to achieve the set goals of any organization.

Under planning, it is decided in advance what to do. How to do? Thus, planning is the process of policymaking keeping in mind the future.

Planning is required in the library. It is also necessary to consider the local situation, language, level of education, etc. in the planning of the library. In addition, a plan is prepared for the performance of works and services.

2. Organization - Creating an organization means that the process of moving collectively towards accomplishing the goal or purpose should be such that the direction of the organization should be organized in an organized state-based on scientific method so that the work could run smoothly.

Under the organization in library service, it is necessary that there should be collective work on any subject or information.

3. Staffing - Where the organizational structure creates different positions to carry out various tasks, the same staffing (personnel arrangement) ensures the availability of suitable persons to handle those positions.

To make any organization effective, it is necessary to have the right employee system. Virtually the power of any organization is the employees.

4. Direction - The direction is a highly managerial activity. The task of directing is to bring the employee of the institution towards the direction of achieving the objectives. The task of directing is to guide employees to good results by a higher manager.

5. Co-ordination - Co-ordination is the combination of various activities in order to achieve performance in an organization. In other words, coordination is a state of working together. Co-ordination is to avoid the efforts of employees to achieve goals.

6. Reporting - Reporting is the inverse word of direction. Directions In contrast to the instructions at the level below the higher level, in the report, the manager of the lower level has to send the information of achievements and unavailability to the higher manager during a particular period. Reporting helps in healthy evaluation. Library reports are usually annual.

7. Budgeting - Budget preparation is an important task of management. The future of the institution depends only on a good budget. Under this, there should be proper distribution of sources and use of financial income. The library budget is prepared by the librarian and internal conditions are evaluated for it.

These things are basically included under scientific management. The emergence of psychology under scientific management, the growth of personnel management, and the management of human relations led to a shared vision.

Under this, the efficiency of the institution is to reduce costs and increase production as well, as to increase the wages of workers.
